HP Launched First Version of Open webOS in Beta
HP has put a further step in the further development of webOS as an open source platform by 450,000 lines of code to be released under the Apache 2.0 license. However, the company did not provide a specific date yet for when the September release of Open webOS will roll out.
The code includes two tools, one for application development and integration with other open source technologies such as calendar and contact functions in the open source operating system Ubuntu processed and apps developed with the object-Enyo JavaScript Framework.
In addition, the package also includes a tool available for webOS also on new equipment to convert. The tool contains an ARM emulator that includes db8 and node.js instructions can process.
Be sacrificed weekends
HP said in a blog that completing the promise to webOS as an open source platform release “a lot of hard work, long hours and sacrificed weekends has cost, but that it was successful”. The company announced in January that the development of webOS wanted to transfer to the open source community. HP calls the developer community on the platform to test and to think about further improvement towards the first official version of webOS.
HP is now working to further the privatization of the business that deals with the webOS development called GRAM.
Team significantly downsized
The New York Times made an analysis of the number of people now working to HP webOS. With the announcement that webOS open source would be 600 people were involved in the platform. In February, the company was still 275 men from that team on the street. An analysis of the profiles on LinkedIn delivers 300 people webOS in their profile name, but only 170 show actually still working on webOS. In 90 sections, the webOS experience to a now terminated function.
The New York Times recognizes that not everyone is present or is on LinkedIn profile up to date, but the trend nevertheless indicates that the webOS team has thinned considerably. HP also said in the blog again be looking for new staff.
